Why these Australian designers make their sofas in the Netherlands
Kate and Joel Booy set up their home and studio in Dordrecht because ‘design is to the Dutch what sport is to Australians’. From the upcoming April issue out on March 22.
Australian couple Kate and Joel Booy established studio Truly Truly in the Netherlands after Joel graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven a tad over a decade ago. Since then, they’ve created a small but beautifully formed portfolio of products for the home.
There’s the Pulla sofa, produced for heritage Dutch brand Leolux; floppy-looking cushions lolling across its rounded, sausage-like form to create seductive armrests. (A pulla is a type of braided Finnish pasty.)
