The most recognisable stool in the world is getting a makeover

Artek’s Stool 60 has become the blueprint for many stackable seating solutions in the 92 years since it was designed.

Artek is celebrating 90 years by reissuing some of its famous designs. 

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Artek’s organic, stackable Stool 60 is among the most admired seats in the world. Conceived in 1933 by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, it set the dial for Nordic chic and spurred countless knock-offs.

To mark 90 years of Artek, the furniture company that Aalto founded in 1935 with his architect wife, Aino, is re-releasing key items from its historical catalogue along with limited-edition iterations of the famous stool, which it manufactures to this day.
