Limewash? Yes, if you really want. But these days, the founder of Porter’s Paints – the company that redefined Australian paint finishes and colours in the 1980s and ’90s with its limewash – has a new focus.

For Peter Lewis, it’s now all about natural paints, mixed with pigments sourced from Iran, Italy and Greece, plus lime renders, linseed oil-based paints, dead-flat finishes, a white with brightening zinc. He’s bringing artisanal back.
