What is it? The BMW iX3 is the electric adaptation of the popular X3 SUV. Rather than take the usual approach of trying to differentiate the EV, BMW has made almost everything inside and out as close as possible to the petrol car. Only the closed-in grille, smaller wheels on the base model (19s vs 20s) and “i” badge give it away. The iX3 is built in China and, if this sample is representative, it’s been built to a very high standard.

What does it cost? The iX3 M Sport – the new entry-level variant – is $89,100 plus on-road costs. The more lavishly equipped but mechanically similar iX3 M Sport Pro (as pictured) is $104,900 plus on-road costs.
