How Daniel Ricciardo helped make Drive to Survive a massive hit
The fifth season of the Formula 1 docuseries starts next week, but it might be the end of the road for its Australian star.
The television series that has rejuvenated Formula 1 racing couldn’t have happened without Australian race driver Daniel Ricciardo.
Drive to Survive series producer Paul Martin says the original idea was to make a series about the Red Bull F1 team, with its Aussie driver front and centre. When Netflix came on board, demanding the series cover the whole grid, the Ferrari and Mercedes teams refused to co-operate, causing serious doubts about the whole project.
