This is iconic world-class opera, but not as you’d experience it at the New York Met, La Scala, the Sydney Opera House or Covent Garden.

The conductor, fresh from a gym session, is wearing a mini skirt. A soprano, performing arias at a “pop-up” in a main street, has bought a cattleman’s hat from the local “gentleman’s outfitter’s and gun shop” to shield herself from the sun. A baritone hosts what could best be described as an operatic pantomime in the beer garden of a hallowed country pub.
