On the road and revelling in Australia's mid-century motels

Comedian and modernism aficionado Tim Ross takes a trip into nostalgia with a new show and book.

Tim Ross recounts a childhood filled with Paddle Pops, banana lounges and “sunburn upon sunburn”. Of idyllic road trips in the Holden Kingswood staying in a string of modest but compelling mid-century modern motels. If he was lucky, the shared family room would boast a colour TV.

“My brother and me would run in and jump on the beds, turn on the TV and wait for it to warm up, just to be sure,” he reminisces.
