Meet the woman with NSW’s biggest (and hardest) arts job

Maud Page is the first female to run the Art Gallery Of NSW, but its immediate survival as the costs of a new building bite is what she is dwelling on.

I’m sitting in the restaurant of the Art Gallery Of NSW’s Naala Badu building, but it feels like I’m rocking on a river. The cause of this weird sensation is the boats bobbing by on a 20-metre-long screen just behind my companion, the AGNSW’s new director and first female boss in its 154-year history, Maud Page.

“When we were putting it in, we wondered whether people would feel a little unstable,” says Page, with the gentle smile that seems her default setting.
