Leonard Joel doubles down on ivory ban

The head of art auction house Leonard Joel has criticised his industry for continuing to sell ivory and rhino horn even after the government committed to a near total ban on the practice last month.

A government delegation told the triennial meeting of the Convention for International Trade in Endangered Species in Geneva that Australia was moving towards legislating the ban. Environment Minister Sussan Ley will meet state and territory counterparts in November to work out how and when the ban would be implemented.
