The last time I saw Kate Miller-Heidke, she was five metres tall. Little wonder I initially walk straight past the singer-songwriter, standing with two minders at a table inside bustling Sydney CBD eatery Gowings Bar & Grill.

A few weeks earlier, the 37-year-old's towering 'Dolly Varden' dress, spiky crown and backing dancer attached to an oversized pole-vault pole – which many fans compared to a Dementor from the Harry Potter movies – had been the standout sight of the Eurovision "Australia Decides" song contest, televised from the Gold Coast.
