The rapport between the musicians and celebrated Indian conductor Zubin Mehta has as much to do with cricket bats as it does with batons.

A Venn diagram of orchestra conductors and cricket tragics would have few people in its intersection, but luckily for the Australian World Orchestra, among them is one of the most celebrated conductors of all time.

When Zubin Mehta conducts the AWO’s Strauss program in Melbourne and Sydney from August 31, it will be the Indian-born 86-year-old and long-time leader of the New York, Los Angeles and Israeli philharmonic orchestras’ third tour with the local musicians.
