A tattooist and punk musician who did not attend art school, Indigenous artist Shaun Daniel Allen is being courted by top institutions and global luxury brands.

Louis Vuitton’s love affair with contemporary-art darling Yayoi Kusama has spawned a polka-dotted accessories range, lavish magazine spreads and enormous installations at its boutiques globally.

The luxury giant’s relationship with Kusama, whose auction record currently stands at $10.9 million (about $16 million), follows flirtations with blue-chip artists Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami, both of whom found new audiences as a result of their collaborations.
