The metrics of cool are very arbitrary. Cool is a feeling. It’s a vibe. You either are cool or you are uncool. And under no circumstances do you get to decide.

In a much-discussed article in British Vogue, the writer Chanté Joseph makes the case that boyfriends are embarrassing. Having a boyfriend, or worse, publishing pictures or mentioning them on social media, she writes, is now uncool.
