Cressida Campbell leads way as living artists fly high
The work of living Australian artists was at the forefront of fierce bidding at two major auctions last week with Cressida Campbell leading the charge. Ahead of a retrospective at the National Gallery of Australia, Campbell’s star is soaring.
At Menzies in Sydney last Thursday night, Campbell’s unique watercolour on incised woodblock, The Verandah, created in 1987 and fresh to the secondary market, more than doubled its high estimate to sell for $420,000 (hammer). Make that $515,455 with buyer’s costs included.
