Charles Dresser toast rack sets new sales record
An 1878 silver-plated toast rack by Scottish industrial designer Charles Dresser sold for $12,000 in a week of competitive bidding at local auction houses.
From a Tom Roberts painting to a Christopher Dresser toast rack, art objects from across the spectrum were being snapped up at auction last week.
The market shows no signs of abating and has proved yet again that there’s money to spare with overseas travel off the agenda for Australians. Not even Sydney’s lockdown could put a dampener on the shopping spree; it seemed to fuel it.
