The latest NAPLAN test results show no overall improvement in the past year, leaving Australian school children's academic outcomes lagging behind Asian countries' rising level of school performance.
The results of the tests – which children in years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sat in May – show no statistically significant improvement in any year tested or any of the areas tested compared with last year. Children are given NAPLAN tests in five subject areas – reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.
