As the evidence rolls in that Australia's best school students are underperforming, NSW independent schools have launched a "design thinking" project to find a solution.

Since late last year teachers from 15 schools have been gathering in workshops to look at the data and let the ideas flow freely – called "ideation" in design-thinking jargon – to find answers.
