How Rex’s ‘golden triangle’ plan failed

Rex appears to have fallen prey to the curse plaguing challengers keen to throw down the gauntlet to the established duopoly of Qantas and Virgin. But Labor’s inaction on aviation policy didn’t help.

Melbourne-based tax adviser Noel Beharis started flying Regional Express because he was sick of Virgin and Jetstar cancelling his flights after the pandemic.

“They run it like a bus line. The bus leaves at a certain time in the morning, the bus comes back in the evening and that’s it. Yes, you don’t have much of a choice, but you know it’s definitely going to leave,” says Beharis of his loyalty to the airline known as Rex.
