The local managing director of Chinese-backed carmaker Polestar says major brands and the industry’s prominent lobby group have stifled the uptake of electric vehicles with “unnecessary and unfounded” criticism of fuel efficiency standards, creating fear among motorists.

In a frank interview, Scott Maynard said electric vehicle manufacturers were still working through “some of the misinformation” about their cars.
