My ride in a fully driverless car still required two humans
There’s a reason why robo-taxis are not ready to be unleashed on the public.
Ira BoudwayWhile in Arizona, in the American Southwest, to visit family over the holidays, I drove out to the suburbs south-east of Phoenix to hail a ride in one of Waymo’s driverless vehicles.
I had been in one before, accompanied by a safety driver, but this was my first time back in the state since Waymo went fully driverless with its public rides in 2020 – I wanted to see for myself what it was like to have a ghost behind the wheel.
