Electric scooters are coming to a city near you – if they’re not already there. Trials of for-hire dockless e-scooters are already underway in Brisbane and Adelaide, set to start in Darwin early next year, and local councils in Sydney and Melbourne are keen to follow.

But if you’re considering buying your own to ride to work or the shops, there’s a good chance you’d actually be breaking the law.
