ACCC greenlights Virgin-Qatar deal, frequent flyer partners cut back

The consumer watchdog says Virgin Australia does not need approval to limit its frequent flyers’ options for travel to key destinations, as it greenlighted a doubling of flights from major Australian airports to Doha through its alliance with Qatar Airways.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Friday approved a plan for Virgin to wet lease Qatar Airways’ planes, pilots and crews, paving the way for flights to commence in June.
