Sydney tries to stem carnage of $36b losses in business events sector

Pandemic restrictions might be far from over, but Sydney is moving to grab the lion's share of the once-lucrative business events and conferencing market, which generated $35.7 billion a year in direct expenditure nationwide before COVID-19 hit.

A $500,000 campaign titled "It's got to be Sydney" will be released by the NSW government and industry body Business Events Sydney on Monday – just weeks after the NSW government's 24-Hour Economy strategy was announced, aimed at reclaiming the idea of Sydney as a city with pumping nightlife.
