Beach bans may last to the weekend in tar ball mystery
An oil slick from a passing ship was one theory authorities were checking as the potential source of thousands of black lumps washing up along Sydney shorelines, forcing the closure of Bondi and other beaches because of health concerns.
Cleaners in hazmat suits picking the globules out of the sand will shift their focus on Friday to Clovelly and North Maroubra, where a high tide threatened to deposit more of the mysterious tar-like balls.
