Optus communications ‘manifestly inadequate’ in 2023 phone outage

Optus’ response to last year’s national phone outage has been slammed by senators as “manifestly inadequate” as they called for new rules forcing companies to keep the public updated when telecommunications networks fail.

The Senate’s environment and communications references committee, chaired by Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young, on Friday finally tabled its report from an inquiry into the November 2023 outage after a 10-month delay.
