Australian Olympic Committee outsider Mark Stockwell pitched himself on Friday as a successor to long-term president John Coates with a promise of more funding for the 45 national peak sporting federations that have a say in the matter.
As the three-week campaign for the AOC presidency formally kicked off, Olympic swimmer-turned-property developer Mr Stockwell said he was a strong person to lead the AOC in which Mr Coates, a dominant figure for three decades, will remain, albeit only in an honorary role from 2024.
