‘It’s human, not political’: Khawaja to fight Palestine shoe ban
Usman Khawaja has backed down from plans to wear boots with slogans written in the colours of the Palestinian flag on the field during the opening day of Australia’s first Test against Pakistan, after being warned he faced being banned from playing.
But the Australian batsman – the first Muslim to play for the Australian cricket team – said he will fight the International Cricket Council for the right to wear the shoes, which he said represented him taking a stand on a humanitarian issue, not a political one.
