In typically understated fashion Nick Kyrgios has declared he is one of the favourites to win next week’s Australian Open, which looms as a potential changing of the guard in the men’s draw.

The 27-year-old enjoyed his best season in 2022, winning the Australian Open doubles title with close friend Thanasi Kokkinakis before proving he had the mongrel to reach a Wimbledon singles final against Novak Djokovic.
