How Australia’s unpredictable weather is changing sport

Athletes now worry that unpredictable weather may affect participation and ultimately the financial viability of sports long-term.

Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins wanted to vomit. It was 2017 and he had just bowled the third over of a spell at the Chittagong Test in Bangladesh. The heat was getting to him. He ultimately lost 6.5 kilograms in 24 hours.

“Even the Bangladeshis struggled,” he wrote in an article for online publication Players Voice. “The conditions were just that harsh. There’s no way to acclimatise to heat like that. You can’t cool down.”
