As COVID-19 is set to affect sport for several seasons, swapping rugby union and league for cricket in winter might help to reduce the risk of spreading the virus, according to infectious disease expert Peter Collignon.
Although the virus transmits all year round, he said it would likely be most virulent in winter, when players of both rugby codes get intimately close, particularly during scrums.
