Gillon McLachlan’s bridging of the gap between AFL headquarters and the powerful team coaches ended the era where “coaches were the enemy”, according to former AFL chairman Mike Fitzpatrick.
An executive search firm will be retained for what is expected to be a hotly contested role after Mr McLachlan announced on Tuesday that he would be stepping down as chief executive of the $1.5 billion a year domestic football code.
