Australia’s favourite racehorse, Verry Elleegant, can seal her status as a champion at Randwick on Saturday, in what could be her local swansong before she takes on the world.
So says her trainer, Chris Waller, who marvels at the six-year-old mare’s ability to keep turning up in what he calls “the right races”. And the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes on the final day of The Championships is one of those – a classic of the Australian turf.
