Chinese rising star Jerry Shang has joined a local trio among the final recipients of an Australian Open singles wildcard ahead of a series of charity matches in Melbourne next week, featuring Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz.
Shang turned heads at the Australian Open last year, when he smashed 53 winners on his way to beating 29-year-old German Oscar Otte in four sets, becoming the first 17-year-old to win a men’s grand slam singles match since Alcaraz, the current world No. 2, in 2021.
