Winning the 2032 Games will help drive south-east Queensland’s economy for the next decade and help the tourism industry recover from the pandemic.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says an overhauled Gabba will be the centrepiece of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games bid.

In 2016, when Brisbane launched its bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games, most Australians rolled their eyes and passed it off as another example of the parochial state wanting to get even with its southern rivals Sydney and Melbourne.

Sydney (2000) and Melbourne (1956) had already successfully hosted the world’s biggest sporting event and their little cousin Brisbane just wanted to join the club.
