Australian tennis fans are once again pinning their hopes on the baby-faced Alex de Minaur at Melbourne Park after one of the most lethal early wipeouts of local players in the past decade.

As no female player has yet filled the hole left behind by Ash Barty, much of the hype at this year’s Australian Open had revolved around the long-awaited return of Nick Kyrgios, and the impressive depth of the men’s contingent, with nine players in the world’s top 100.
