Metcash’s better than expected food results soothes hardware pain

The chief executive of Metcash, which supplies 1280 IGA supermarkets, says grocery shoppers are visiting stores more frequently but buying less each time as they hunt for discounts and specials amid sustained cost-of-living pressures.
Doug Jones said the food division at Metcash is proving resilient and benefiting from household cutbacks on spending at restaurants and cafes.
