Beverage industry stalwart Peter Brooks was $364 million richer last night after agreeing to sell his privately owned soft drinks business, P&N Beverages, to Japanese brewer Asahi.

Asahi plans to merge P&N with its Australian soft-drink business, Schweppes, lifting annual sales to more than $1 billion and increasing its share of the Australian non-alcoholic beverages market from about 16 per cent to 21 per cent by value and 29 per cent by volume.
