The father of two teenage girls, Shane Fallscheer was a regular on the high school birthday party circuit. The most popular gifts bags, local beauty giant Mecca and womenswear brand Kookai, were reliable showstoppers. But he kept noticing two others with far lower profiles: Mejuri and Missoma, both affordable international jewellery brands.
Fallscheer arguably knows more about the more accessible end of jewellery than anyone else in the country. A long-time retail executive, he had led ASX-listed category killer Lovisa for 12 years, growing the chain to one that spanned 20 countries and more than 550 stores.
