Bird flu ruffles feather prices in bad news for decorators

The chief executive of bed linen retailer Adairs says shoppers face price rises of between 10 and 20 per cent on down pillows and doonas because of a shortage of bird feathers.

Mark Ronan said avian flu outbreaks had spurred a shortage at a time when the clothing industry had already claimed a larger share of available feathers because of the huge popularity of “puffer” apparel.
