When law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth told the Catholic Church two weeks ago that it would no longer work on its child abuse cases, church leaders were less than impressed.

Not only was there no prior warning or discussion with a client of 60 years’ standing, but the firm also wanted to keep doing other work that didn’t involve clerical abuse.
