Law firm blindsided church when it gave up abuse work

Law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth blindsided a client of more than 60 years when it told Catholic Church leaders two weeks ago that it would no longer work on its child abuse cases as part of a “change in direction”.

The Archdiocese of Melbourne, which is headed by Archbishop Peter Comensoli, said on Wednesday that Corrs had taken a unilateral decision and that it was now “working through the detail”.
