Synagogue to mosque, the legal profession gathers in a divided city

In a packed room beneath Sydney’s Great Synagogue last week, NSW Chief Justice Andrew Bell told a crowd of judges, barristers and solicitors that to be a lawyer meant to be an advocate for equality, and for inclusion.

Amid a wave of antisemitic attacks in Sydney, Bell said the attendance of more than 30 judges from across state and federal courts – sweltering in their robes – was a gesture of support for the Jewish community.
