Rio Tinto chairman Dominic Barton says Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s “calmer, thoughtful” approach to diplomacy has improved Australia’s relationship with China even while Beijing’s ties with other major economies deteriorates.

Beijing has lifted unofficial bans on products like coal and timber over the past six months and invited Anthony Albanese to visit as frosty relations with Australia’s biggest trade partner continue to thaw.
