Queensland coal mine to boost output after legal hurdle overcome

New Hope’s long-stalled thermal coal mine in Queensland is free to ramp up to full production after the miner struck a legal deal over water usage, putting an end to a more than a decade-long battle over the project.

The settlement is a victory for the billionaire Millner family-backed ASX-listed producer, which has faced legal challenges from climate and farming groups since the expansion of the New Acland open-cut thermal coal mine was first proposed.
