Critical minerals producers say Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s dream of making Australia a battery manufacturing powerhouse is unlikely to come to fruition without a dramatic investment from government.

Mr Albanese declared last week that domestic production of batteries and other clean energy technology was a key element of the government’s plan to shore up the nation’s sovereign manufacturing capacity. But experts and mining legends disagree.
