Orica battles TNT shortage as war in Ukraine strains global supply

A global explosives’ shortage, intensified by the war in Ukraine, has forced ASX-listed Orica into direct competition with governments and defence contractors for TNT – a critical input for its mining and infrastructure operations.

Sanjeev Gandhi, chief executive of Orica, attributed the escalating scarcity to heightened military demand – particularly following the loss of Ukrainian supply – saying Orica was at times “running hand to mouth” to fulfil orders in North America.
