New Hope sticks to its word and sacks workers after 12-year delay

Mining company New Hope Group made good on its threat and sacked half the 300-strong workforce at its New Acland mine on Monday after not being granted final approvals by the Queensland government.

After 12 years stuck in the planning and approval process, New Hope on Friday called on the Palaszczuk Labor government to give the green light for the $900 million stage three expansion of the New Acland mine or it would be forced to cut staff.
