Ignorance rather than greed behind Sandfire’s Indigenous blunder
An independent report into Sandfire Resources’ disturbance of an Indigenous site has found previous management oversaw a siloed workforce with inadequate systems which failed to realise its “ESG obligations” went beyond “legislative compliance”.
Gilbert + Tobin found “artefact scatters” near the company’s DeGrussa and Monty copper assets in WA were disturbed in 2016 because of “ignorance and process failings” rather than malice or greed.
