Heritage spat slows BHP at Olympic Dam and Oak Dam
Development of BHP’s Olympic Dam mine and the nearby Oak Dam copper discovery could be slowed after native title custodians halted cultural heritage advice until their agreement with the mining giant was modernised.
The Kokatha people of South Australia have been unwilling to conduct heritage surveys for BHP for the past five months in the belief that aspects of the 13-year-old agreement that governs the Olympic Dam mine are outdated and culturally inappropriate.
