A plan by key crossbenchers to overhaul a lucrative fuel tax credit for miners has drawn condemnation from farmers who fear a policy shake-up will undermine the scheme, while the West Australian government has also emerged as a key opponent to the reform.

Independent MPs from across the country have called for an overhaul of the diesel fuel tax credit for major miners, which they say is currently undermining national decarbonisation efforts.
